Brittanys are gun dogs, selectively bred for over 150 years to achieve a lean, intelligent and very energetic dog. So long as this background is kept in mind, Brittanys are excellent companion dogs and can be wonderful family pets. The Brittany is a strong willed dog, but always wants to please its owner, and is therefore reasonably easy to train for obedience.

There are no special requirements for training your Brittany that are not applicable to any other dog. They respond well to positive encouragement during training sessions. The training sessions should be kept short, no longer than 10 – 15 minutes.

Obedience Training benefits your dog and yourself. It is a foundation for solving many behavioural problems that will crop up in the early months and years. It creates a method of communication between you and your dog. This in turn enables you instruct your dog about what you want him or her to do. You can teach her anything from 'stay' (leave that other dog alone) to 'sit' (don't jump all over Grandma) to 'off' (don't chew the new dining table)!
